Fab Friday Induction at Pontio
As part of Practice in Context (ARF 502) Sculpture I decided to attend the Fab Friday Induction at Pontio where along with others we were shown around the workshops and had a health and safety briefing so that we can attend the training offered at the Innovation Centre in Pontio.
I had to book this place at Fab Friday where I hoped to gain an introduction into 3D printing in particular.
Pontio FabLab is a place where you can gain access to digital manufacturing and prototyping equipment. FabFriday is a chance to do that for free.
Use the ‘Find a Session’ button and grab a free ticket for a FabFriday Introduction (Requires registration to the Pontio website). You’ll be able to come and see what’s available, talk to knowledgeable and experienced staff, and explore the possibilities of prototyping and realising your own projects. There will almost certainly be some machine demos. Spaces are limited so book early.
If you like what you see, you can sign up as a FabLab member, you can do this on the day. Membership comes with a general safety induction to the FabLab from us, whilst you undertake to comply with all safety requirements and systems. Free membership gives you access to the tools of FabLab, but before we can let you loose on a machine you’ll need to book onto an machine specific induction.
Once you are a member and have completed the general induction you will be able to book FabFriday sessions to come and work on your own projects.
Friday equipment inductions will incur a nominal charge. Watch the website for availability and booking. Equipment inductions are mandatory before the related equipment can be used.
Members, having completed the relevant training, will be able to book access to:
- Laser cutters
- 3D printers
- Vinyl cutters
- Embroidery and sewing machines
- Small and medium CNC milling machines
- Electronics equipment
- Plastics bending equipment
- Sublimation printing equipment
- Powered fret saw
- Workbenches and hand tools
- Photography and video equipment
