Helfa Gelf Application

22nd April 2018

Today I registered my application with Helfa Gelf – now officially a member! – I’ve been attending Helfa Gelf events as a Regional Print Centre Member but have finally taken the plunge to become more visible and this is one of many steps.

I’m not yet at the stage where I feel ready to take part in the open studios event. However, once I find a studio space and begin to work on my income streams – this will definitely be an option.

CARN – Application for Membership

22nd April 2018

Today I applied for Membership from CARN in Caernarfon. The link below is to the application form and the associated jpgs as requested in the application form.

The Personal Statement I have included in the application is below:

When I start a piece of work I research newsworthy events that have happened in the world, in particular from a social and political viewpoint. My artwork is often a reflective observation of these events where the general population has in some way been mistreated by an overriding power, such as the residing government/politicians of the time. Key techniques used as part of my process are Collage, Printmaking, Sculpture, Photography and Video incorporating found objects into the artwork.

The images I have sent to Menna at CARN are also shown below:

11th March 2018

I requested an application form from CARN which Menna sent to me by return.

Tuesday 17th April 2018

Having been several months in the planning, today was the day that we hung our exhibition at Ty Menai on the Parc Menai Estate in Bangor. Successful hanging where everyone worked well together to get the exhibition in place.

Building an Artist Career

Friday 23rd March 2018

Today I attended the full day workshop “Building an Artist Career” with Susan Mumford of “Be Smart About Art” through Helfa Gelf.

This workshop was particularly informative and based around the steps you need to take to market yourself as a brand. The things we considered during the workshop were:

  • Definition and Communication of your Brand: What is meant by your brand and why is it so important?
  • Brand Components; identity, values, communication style, presentation, challenges, issues, client experience, target audience, visual identity and trust.
  • Collaboration and Developing Professional Relationships.
  • Verbal and Written Agreements, Contracts and Financial Aspects
  • Income Streams with a Profit Focus and Best Practices
  • Pricing and Profitability
  • Growing and Engaging your audience
  • Confidence Knocks and Confidence Boosts

Overall this was a full-on workshop with lots of useful information, which is going to take a lot of time to digest and put into practice. In the meantime I have also purchased Susans Art is your life, Make it your living book.
