With my feet up in front of the Telly, I decided to investigate the video editing capabilities of my iPhone with a lot of success. I chose three apps in particular to use, Fused, Funimate and Perfect Video Editor.

Funimate has some great effects that can transform your source video into something a bit special. I like my video’s to have a surrealistic effect and these effects in Funimate helped me to play around with my source video to achieve some pretty cool stuff. The only downside of Funimate is that it will only save 15 seconds of video.

I got around this by using Perfect Video Editor to stitch together clips to make longer video’s. Perfect Video Editor also has filters that you can apply, to change the colours in your video clips.

Although Funimate and Perfect Video Editor are great I needed something to merge/layer video clips, this is when I came across Fused. Fuse is pretty basic to use, but powerful in that you can work with the brightness and contrast and it also has quite a large variety of masks that can be applied to your video.

The upshot of this little experiment is that i now the beginnings of a video library of clips that I can incorporate into any of my video work. Below are some examples:

This video is made from the same clip of students walking past the building at Coleg Menai. All three sections have been converted to black and white. The left clip is the original clip. The clip in the centre has a mirror effect applied to it in Fuminate. The right clip has had a vertical flip applied. At the end of the video I have used an x-ray effect to create some interesting imagery. Well Chuffed with this!

The video below is a combination of the video I worked with on Tuesday 6th December and a video of some footage that was on my TV at home. I have used several effects in this video and also merged the two using Fused.

The last video is playing around with video effects in Fused to create some interesting footage, from the same clip used on Tuesday 6th December. The stitching together of the videos is a bit clumsy but I am sure I will find something that enables me to add transitions to my video.

Research: iPhone Video Artists

One of Britain’s most celebrated living artists, David Hockney, is pioneering the art world yet again, turning his index finger into a paintbrush and his iPad into a canvas in a new exhibit in San Francisco
