I re-visited the Ghosting Effects that I had worked with last week and created a new video using these skills without the use of the YouTube Video.

The effects that I worked with to create this video are:

  • Arithmetic Video Effect to add Red, Blue and Green into the Video.
  • Opacity to make each of the layers transparent.
  • Motion to move each of these layers so that the Ghosting effect appears.
  • Gaussian Blur: Mark helped me to apply the Gaussian Blur in the video.
  • Masking: We added a mask to the Gaussian Blur, so as to blur a specific area.
  • Mask Tracking: We also used Mask Tracking to move the blurred area as the video moved.

Following on from this, I duplicated this sequence to work with masks to create blurred edges and interesting shapes. However, I used the mask in the Opacity and not in the Gaussian Blur for each image. I am now comfortable using Masks, Arithmetic and Gaussian Blur. I have still to spend some more time working with Mask Tracking.

Below are some stills from the same video:

We also discussed Anaglyph 3D as a way of making the most out of this ghosting effect. Must invest in some 3D glasses!

The following video Mark showed me how to apply the Colour Key Video Effect and the Lumetri Film Stocks to add richness and colour to the video.

Research: RGB Effects

Thinking further about the RGB  effects, I came across Carnovsky on the internet.

Carnovksy

RGB is a work about the exploration of the “surface’s deepness”.RGB designs create surfaces that mutate and interact with different chromatic stimulus.

Carnovsky’s RGB is an ongoing project that experiments with the interaction between printed and light colours. The resulting images are unexpected and disorienting. The colors mix up, the lines and shapes entwine becoming oneiric and not completely clear. Through a colored filter (a light or a transparent material) it is possible to see clearly the layers in which the image is composed. The filter’s colors are red, green and blue, each one of them serves to reveal one of the three layers.

RGB first installation has been shown during Milan Design Week 2010 at J&V showroom.
