Introduction from Regional Print Centre
‘’An art work in the hand’’
We are more used to fine art printmaking supplying both text and illustrations for handmade books. This workshop will encourage you to creatively repurpose/reinvent old, spare, damaged or redundant print based work, to create the book structure itself, as illustrated by examples of the artist’s own book art. Please search portfolios and plan chests for left over work, including photocopies and other pre-printed papers, and bring it with you. If you can cut it up, you can make a book structure.
The workshop will cover several different simple construction techniques. Participants will create templates, including various single page folding patterns, concertina, origami folding, and pamphlet stitch, which may be used singly or in combination, and then develop their own books.
Estella Scholes MA is a professional artist and tutor based in Crewe. Her work is exhibited widely in the North West and in Wales, and can be found in public and private collections as far away as Norway and Qatar. She originally trained as a painter, although in recent years her work has concentrated on original printmaking and artists books.
