Machine Embroidery Training – Fab Lab – Pontio

I decided to attend the machine embroidery training at the Fab Lab in Pontio with a view to experimenting with machine embroidery as a method of sketching.

The Embroidery Machine used at Pontio is a 10 needle embroidery machine. You use software to import the jpg of the sketch you require to be embroidered and the software then translates the image into an image that can be embroidered. I think the best use of this for sketching would be when you are making complex embroidered sketches with different colours of thread. This machine will give you a precise embroidered copy of the image you have, however it moves you away from the spontaneity of freehand machine embroidery.
